Well This Is Not all About the network we are going to talk about how network flow in our devices and how it works in differnt devices, Modem, router, switch… all sounded similar to me.
So I tried to understand them in my own way.
This is the explanation.

How internet actually comes to our house or office

Earlier, I thought internet just comes into my phone directly.
But that’s not how it works.

Internet first comes into the building.
Then it passes through a few devices.
Each device does only one small thing.

Once I understood this idea, things became easier.

1) Modem – the starting point

The modem is the first device.

1. I used to ignore it because we never touch it.
But actually, it’s very important.

2.What it does is simple.
It connects our house or office to the internet company.

3.The signals coming from outside cannot be used directly.
The modem converts them into something our network can use.

If the modem stops working, internet completely stops.

2) Router – deciding where data goes

After the modem, internet goes to the router.

1.This part confused me earlier.
I thought router and modem were the same.
They are not.

2.The router’s job is to decide which device should get the data.

3.In one house, many devices use internet at the same time.
Without a router, data would get mixed up.

So the router looks at every request and sends it to the correct device.

3) Hub – why it is not used now

1.A hub is a very basic device. When I learned about it, I understood why people don’t use it anymore.

2.If one device sends data, the hub sends it to all devices.Even the devices that don’t need it.This makes the network slow. And data is wasted.

3.That’s why hubs are mostly outdated.

4) Switch – a better solution

1.A switch solves the problem of a hub.

2.Instead of sending data to everyone,it sends data only to the required device. It remembers which device is connected where. So communication becomes faster.

3.Most local networks today use switches.

5) Firewall – stopping unwanted traffic

1.Firewall is about security.I like to think of it as rules for the network.

2.It checks traffic coming in and going out.If something looks unsafe, it blocks it.
If it is allowed, it lets it pass.

3.This is very important, especially for servers and companies.

6) Load Balancer – handling many users

1.This concept made sense to me when I imagined a popular website.

2.If many users visit a site, one server cannot handle everything.

3.A load balancer helps by dividing users between multiple servers. So the load is shared.
This keeps the website working properly even with many users.

Why this matters for us as students

Even if we are learning programming:

Our applications run behind load balancers

Our servers are protected by firewalls

Requests reach our code through these devices

Understanding this helps in interviews and real projects.

How I remember everything

I don’t try to memorize definitions.
I just remember what each device is responsible for.

Modem starts the internet connection

Router sends data to the right place

Switch connects devices properly

Firewall protects the network

Load balancer shares traffic

That’s enough to understand networking basics.
